One of the most important things you can do for your body is to stay hydrated and there is no simpler way to do that then to drink water. Often times this is something that people young and old struggle with.
Hydration is super important for your body for a number of reasons. For athletes it is most important for muscle recovery, helps regulate body temperature and keeps your organs functioning properly. An added bonus is it helps you sleep better which helps you concentrate better and boost your mood.
In order to help you out, we have put together 5 tips to help you drink more water and stay hydrated!
1 - Find your ‘Go to’ Bottle
Find a water bottle that you like and make sure everywhere you go, it comes with you. By having water close at hand, it will be much easier to drink.
2 - Breakfast, Lunch, and Dinner
Instead of having juice, milk, or something else at meals, at least start with a glass of water. Just pretend you are at a restaurant where they always bring you water to start. Once you finish your water, then grab that other beverage you like. I guarantee once you start this tip, you won't be reaching for that other beverage during your meals.
3 - Track your Water Intake
Find a place to keep track of the water you are drinking. Set a goal and if you reach it, make sure to mark it down. Keeping track and being able to see your progress will keep you motivated to keep going.
At first, don’t worry how much water you are drinking. Instead, aim to make drinking water a habit and a part of your daily routine. There is no right amount or wrong amount, any increase in hydration is a WIN!
4 - Add some Bubbles
Plain tap water can often become quite boring. Once in while try drinking some carbonated water. There are lots of great options available with a variety of flavours without adding in sugar. If you have a SodaStream this is a great addition to your daily water intake. Sparkling water is not for everyone but always worth a try!
5 - Don’t wait until you are thirsty
Lots of times we wait until we 'feel' thirsty to reach for water. Instead, try to sip at your bottle throughout the day. By having it with you and in plain sight, you will constantly be reminded to have some water.
Hopefully these tips will help you with staying hydrated and consuming more water. Your body will thank you!
